Humanitarian Assistance
terre des hommes has the mandate to promote children’s rights and support projects that will contribution to the realisation of these rights. But since the end of the nineties, tdh has been supporting humanitarian aid projects and measures after major disasters like the tsunami in Aceh in 2004, the earthquake in Indonesia in 2006, and the Nargis cyclone in 2008. The realisation of increasing vulnerability to disasters of partner countries of tdh triggered the development of this new sector of work. Besides emergency aid after a disaster projects on disaster preparedness and prevention were implemented increasingly. These measures supplement the development aid with partners where crises require other reactions and forms of intervention.
terre des hommes as child rights’ organisation intends to focus its disaster relief efforts on children and their specific concerns and problems. In the SEA region, a team of three qualified persons is tasked to develop the humanitarian assistance program, build capacity of partners, and set up mechanisms that will ensure efficient and effective humanitarian crisis interventions.
